First crazy thing that happened was the power went off at park lawn. We felt like we were blind and had to use our flashlight app on our phones. The fire alarm went off in park lawn around six p.m. that night. We had to go outside when the fire alarm went off. We had to go across the street. On top of all of that we had to walk in the pouring down rain to Service Learning that day. We had tour of Oaknoll. We saw Ben's grandpa that day and a 105 year old lady.
Oaknoll is a retirement home for people over 62. There are three living options. First is independent living where you have your own apartment and cook and clean. If you need help living another choice is assisted living. The health center need total help with living. Oaknoll had a pool, workout center, dining halls, movie theater and a lounge area. They also had a salon.

We learned how to volunteer there. We have to apply online and get trained. We can play cards, go for a walk, read to the residents. Volunteers help in the health center.

We had a lot of fun at oaknoll because we got to see Ben's grandpa and we liked the movie theater.

ReplyDeleteBen's grandpa is the nicest guy I ever met
ReplyDeleteI can't believe Jordan wrote this! He has improved in so many areas of life since his time at UI REACH. I think I will start incorporating this blog, newsletter, and UI REACH website into my instruction with my middle and high school special education students. They all have so much more potential than they, and sometimes their families, think. Perhaps they will want to start their own blog! My Special Olympics athletes, most of my students plus some others, all really look up to Jordan. Maybe they will be inspired to work at achieving more, like all of the UI REACH students have! You are all awesome!
